In this collection, I was interested in accumulating and documenting faces. I strove to capture a photographic compendium of emotions. I am interested in the range of expressions and features. I am interested in the subtle movements and changes that occur as emotions weave physically from one state to the next.  I am interested in exposing the instantaneous moments that occur as we experience and react. In these photos, I defined reactions in three stimuli: an offer to take your photo, a request to take your photo, or nonsensical personal statements.

As I sought to collect vanishing moments in faces, the work began to transform as the subjects vulnerability became tangible. When an emotion is captured is it constant? If it is constant, does the definition change? I chose to insulate the subjection of the individuals by layering faces both systematically and randomly. I juxtaposed faces in reactionary similarities, mothers and daughters, couples, environments and instances like being in a cab, age, gender, or extreme oppositions. I was concerned with maintaining a sense of anonymity while exploring the depth of our faces. Finally I constructed more inherent, choreographed experiences by morphing compositions to mimic the experience of encountering faces both familiar and foreign. I used translucent repetitions of photos and colors to express the patterns our minds make as we attempt to recognize and make sense of connections. Each layer rewrites the momentary expressions. I hope to give the viewer a sense of illusion and reality.
